Setting out of structures

We transfer the design precisely into the field. We establish a setting-out network, set out the spatial position of the structure and its individual structural elements, and document every setting out with a report – from a family house to industrial halls and linear structures.

What it is for

So the structure stands exactly where it should

Incorrect setting out is expensive to put right on site. Our surveyors transfer the design documentation into the field with accuracy matching the type of structure – and document every step.

Before construction begins we establish a setting-out network – a system of stabilised points from which the structure is set out and checked throughout the works. Next comes setting out the spatial position of the building (usually a condition of the building permit) and detailed setting out during construction: axes, foundations, columns, anchor bolts, crane rails and levels.

We work from the design documentation, which we check for continuity and inconsistencies before setting out – any discrepancies are resolved with the designer before they end up in the concrete. A report is issued for every setting out; the results of the surveying work are certified by an authorised surveying engineer (AZI).

We provide a complete surveying service for construction projects: family and apartment houses, production halls and complexes, road and rail structures, bridges and utility networks.

  • Setting out the spatial position of the structure

  • Detailed setting out of structural elements

  • Check and verification measurement of building elements

  • Measurement and volume calculations for earthworks

  • Setting-out reports and documentation

How it works

Cooperation throughout the construction period

  1. 01

    Taking over the design

We check the documentation and agree the schedule of the setting-out work.

  2. 02

    Setting-out network

We establish and survey a network of points for the whole construction period.

  3. 03

    Setting out

We set out buildings and elements as construction proceeds, with a report for each stage.

  4. 04

    Checks and handover

Check measurements verify what has been built; we follow on with as-built documentation.

Common questions

What you ask us most.

Setting out the spatial position of a structure by a professionally qualified person is usually required by the building authority as a condition for carrying out the works; the setting-out report is submitted for final building approval. The specific requirements are stated in your permit – we are happy to go through them with you.

On projects under construction where we run the surveying service, we respond according to the agreed schedule, usually within days. Dates for one-off setting out are agreed when the order is placed.

The design documentation in digital form (ideally DWG/DGN with coordinates) and a contact for the designer in case anything is unclear. Everything else – cadastral data and the control network – we arrange ourselves.
